The intent of the Health & Social Care Curriculum
This vocational course offers students the opportunity to study work relating to health, social and early years’ sectors. It may be of particular interest to students considering a future career in any of these areas.
How is the Health & Social Care Curriculum implemented?
Students will complete a range of assignments based on different aspects of work in health and social care environments. A portfolio of evidence of skills and knowledge is produced which is externally assessed.

How is it examined?
The Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) is an essential component of this qualification covering a range of topics such as health promotion in health, social and early years’ settings and development within life stages. 60%.
The exam is at the end of year 11: This covers how communication supports relationships in a range of services and how legislation and the values of care are applied. 40%.
How important is the Non-Examined Assessment (NEA)?
Essential: it is a significant part of the final assessment. Students must be able to work methodically and keep up to date with their NEA. Consequently, excellent attendance and study skills are needed.

OCR Level 1/2 Cambridge National Certificate in Health and Social Care

The course will initially aim to meet the requirements of the National Certificate Level 2 at pass, merit or distinction level and is an excellent foundation for those wanting to pursue a career in child/health or social care.
Career Directions could include nurse, midwife, carer, nursery worker, health care assistant, personal assistant, social worker, community support and outreach worker, teaching, health promotion specialist, etc.
