NGRT Testing
Understanding the reading ability of our students.
At Sir John Leman High School, we know that there is a very strong link between reading ability and academic outcomes.
Research has shown that students reading at or above the expected reading age for their year group typically achieve significantly higher GCSE results across all subjects and are more likely to achieve a Grade 4+ in English and Maths.
Evidence also suggests that the average reading age of a GCSE paper is around 15 years and 7 months and we are determined to do everything we can to ensure that our students are able to read at a level which ensures they can access the curriculum content of all their subjects.
We use the NGRT, an online reading test, to provide us with a picture of your child’s reading ability. We assess all students in Y7-10 at least once a year. This is really valuable in helping us understand how we can best meet their needs in the classroom and provide additional support where appropriate.
