Attendance

At Sir John Leman High School, we expect our students to attend daily and in a punctual manner.

“Central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is an assumption so widely understood that it is insufficiently stated – pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.”
(Department for Education)

If your child is ill or unable to attend, please call the school before 8.45am each morning your child is absent. A message should be left on the school answering system - 01502 719991. Please give the name and tutor group of your child along with brief details of the reason for absence.

The school operates a daily absence check. This means that if your child is absent at morning registration without the school's prior knowledge, we will treat this as an emergency situation and make contact with you. The system is designed to ensure that all students who have left home arrive safely in school.  Any unknown absence is dealt with in line with the school's Attendance Policy.

For the system to work effectively, up-to-date contact addresses and telephone numbers are essential. Please email the school with any changes to your contact information or change of circumstances (reception@sirjohnleman.co.uk
